Typhoon Hato is projected to affect Hong Kong from 23 August 2017. Expect high winds, heavy rain and storm surges in coastal areas. A typhoon level 10 warning is in force. Local safety procedures require businesses and transportation to close during typhoon level 8 and above. This includes the Australian Consulate-General in Hong Kong. Anticipate disruptions to essential services and transport. Contact your tour provider or airline for latest information on disruptions and follow the instructions issued by local authorities (see Additional information). The level of our advice has not changed. Exercise normal safety precautions in Hong Kong.
