A tropical storm warning has been issued for the Yucatan Peninsula (from Chetumal on the Yucatan’s southeast coast to Campeche on the west coast). Tropical Storm Franklin is expected to cross the east coast of the Yucatan Peninsula during the night of Monday 7 August 2017. The storm is then forecast to continue and also affect the states of Tabasco, Chiapas and Veracruz. Expect high winds, heavy rain, and hazardous sea conditions. Tropical Storm Franklin may strengthen into a hurricane. Coastal zones between Punta Herrero and Xcalak will be evacuated and Chetumal International Airport will be closed from 1800 on 7 August 2017. Monitor local news and weather reports and follow the instructions of local authorities if you are in the affected area. The level of advice has not changed. Exercise a high degree of caution in Mexico. Higher levels apply in some parts of Mexico.
