On 18 October 2017, US Government informed its citizens to be vigilant when visiting establishments and staying at hotels frequented by Westerners due to a credible threat of potential terrorist activity in Dakar. Do not stay at seaside hotels in Dakar until the first week of December. Expect increased levels of security screening in Dakar. Review your personal security plans, be aware of your surroundings, including local events, and monitor local media for updates (see Safety and security). The level of our advice has not changed. Exercise a high degree of caution in Senegal overall. Higher levels apply in some parts of the country.
