Elections for the new constituent assembly are scheduled for 30 July 2017 and security forces have been out in strength since 23 July. The opposition is planning large street protests in the lead-up to election day. The Canadian Embassy, which provides consular support to Australians, has closed its office as its location is close to protest areas. It has moved to an appointment only service, limiting assistance in an emergency. Avianca Airlines announced the suspension of flights to and from Venezuela as of 16 August 2017.  Other airlines are still operating, but could withdraw services at any time. Outbound flights have limited capacity. The level of the advice has not changed. Reconsider your need to travel to Venezuela. Higher levels still apply in some parts of the country.
